When it comes to working, then the present generation has the least patience, and this is because of the digital gadgets that they use. All the gadgets are made to decrease the time and efforts used to perform a specific task. However, this decreased time has reduced the patience and focus within people.

In the beginning, the lack of focus may not seem like a problem, but it could ruin the future and the career of an individual. In that case, the best thing to do is try to increase your focus. With that thing in mind, most of the people try to improve their focus but end up failing. Despite having the right intentions, they just cannot focus on their goals.

If you are facing such issue, then you need to remember that only intentions alone do not help in achieving the task. You need to take necessary measures that will help you in being one step closer to your milestone. Here are the steps that will help you in enhancing your focusing ability.

#1 Environment

One of the biggest things that help an individual in focusing is the environment. Some people prefer having cold environment while others prefer warm. You need to find that what suits you the most and what makes you comfortable. In addition to that environment, you need to look out for the other factors like the chair, desk, and even the location. When you have the most comfortable environment, you tend to become more focused towards your work as the things that make you uncomfortable will not cause a distraction.

#2 Make Your Brain Ready

Our brain is the only organ that is responsible for our focus. If your brain is not prepared, then there is no chance that you can focus on any particular topic. Before you begin your desired work, you need to make sure that you are taking all the necessary steps to make your brain ready for the tasks. The best way to do this is by meditation. Make sure to sit in a comfortable position and take deep breaths. Breathing will improve the blood circulation to the brain and will help you in making your brain ready for work.

You cannot deny the fact that people work according to their priorities. All those individuals who prefer distractions over their work often tend to lose their focus in-between. Some of the most common distractions are mobile phones, unnecessary thoughts, and even co-workers.

Once you have prepared the list, you need to ask yourself that whether your work is more important or the distractions. After getting the answer, you will have the correct priorities and will eliminate all the distractions that could cause your focus to break. Doing this will also help you in maintaining a workflow.

#4 Take Necessary Breaks

In the beginning, people are likely to be more focused, but their presence of mind weakens as they continue doing the same task. The reason behind this is that continuous work puts a lot of pressure on the mind which is the reason why it is advised to take small breaks during the work.

It is best that you take at least 7 minutes break every 90 minutes. This will refresh your minds so that it could stay focused on the work. However, in order to take a break, you should never break the flow of your work. Only take a break when you feel like you are started to lose concentration.

#5 Quit Multitasking

Most of the people believe that multitasking could help them in completing more than one task at the same time. Though this may work for some of the people, but you need to accept that multitasking is not made for everybody. People who try this end up messing up both the tasks. When they are unable to complete the tasks, they could end up worrying about the tasks which could become the reason for poor focus. Make sure that you put all your focus on one task at a time. Without a doubt, it will take more time than multitasking, but it ensures that you will complete your work with complete efficiency.

#6 Understand High and Low Attention Tasks

Hardly there will be any individual who knows about high and low attention tasks. In simple words, high attention tasks are all those tasks which require deep concentration whereas the low attention tasks are their opposites. When people are unaware of both of these, they are unable to create an effective schedule.

All you have do is create a daily schedule where you include both high as well as low attention tasks. High attention tasks tend to suck up more energy so you can relax your mind by completing the low attention tasks. However, do not commit the mistake of replacing low tasks with breaks.

Music is the solution to all the emotional problems, but people do not know that it could help you in enhancing your concentration. The most common distraction for people is the background noise which deviates the attention of the people from their work. Often people believe that music is only enjoyed in free time, but the truth is that it is one of those things that directly relate to the concentration. Listening to music while working will eliminate the external noises and you will be able to focus more on your work. It maintains an audio flow which your mind accepts and start to ignore it while you are working. However, you need to make sure that you are listening to instrumental music.  

#8 Diet

While working, people ignore the most important factor and that is their diet. You need to remember that a hungry body needs the energy to work. Food provides us with the nutrition that is necessary for the body to pump blood. When you are hungry, your brain will receive less oxygen and you will not be able to concentrate at your full potential. In addition to that, hunger also acts as a distraction while working. All you have to do is take a healthy meal before you begin your work, and follow a balanced diet so that you do not feel hungry while working.

Apart from food, water intake is also necessary while working. More than 70% of the brain includes water and not providing it sufficient water will cause dehydration and tiredness. When your brain does not have enough water, then you cannot work at your true potential. All you have to do is drink sufficient amount of water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

#9 Set Achievable Targets and Reward Yourself

When we set difficult target, we tend to stay more focused to achieve it. However, failing to do so could cause more damage than harm and could demotivate us. All you have to do is set achievable targets so that you can complete them at the given time. If you want to make things more challenging, then you can try increasing the difficulty of the work slowly. Do not make the mistake of expecting immediate results.

Once you start achieving your goals, you can also reward yourself for every task your complete. These rewards could be a bigger break or any other thing that you like.
