  • When accomplished, helps you to inspire others.

All these are the reasons, for which it is said to set goals. Moreover, now since you know these, it is expected that you will also set some and will try to make those successes. However, do not set arbitrary goals, rather decide your strong points, take into consideration that things that you love and fight for those.

However, this is not all; rather this is the first stepping stone of success. In order to maintain these, however, you need to keep certain things in mind- the ways to preserve and protect your goals. As preserving them is important, and the best way to do so is keeping those to yourself.

Sharing Goals

It was a predominant belief that if you share something, you will get diverse opinions which will help you to tackle issues from different angles. You will get motivation, encouragement, and optimism, which will help you to get more close to your set goals.

Sharing with those who care for you is indeed a good idea because they will be the one who will help you to overcome your fears or pull you up when you are down. However, like all other things, this sharing also has its cons which we will discuss.

Goals

Why NOT to share?

So, basically over here, we are giving you the reasons to keep your goals private and secret:

#1 Too many cooks spoil the broth- Diverse opinions might help your mind to open up, but it can also clog your brain and stop you from utilizing your own gray cells. You will lose your own perspective amidst the crowd and will seek help from others to fulfill your goals.

#2 Bad Publicity- It is good to be excited about your upcoming venture, but keeping on blabbering about it to any random person will only attract negative publicity. Moreover, if you only build the bridge with words only without any actual action, then you can well imagine how popular you will be, and this will call for the next point.

#3 High Expectations- Publicity is publicity, be it good or bad and so when you and your goals become the talking point then quite naturally people will have high expectations from you. Now this pressure of expectation will not help you much in attaining your goal; rather it will slow you down, and you will be buried under expectations which you fail to fulfill.

#4 Sense of Complacency- This is the worst impact of sharing your goals and the most important reason telling you to keep your mouth shut. Studies have found that people who tend to keep on talking about their goals are less likely to achieve them. Because while sharing your idea, you are already living through it once which gives you and your mind the false impression that you have already neared your goal, and thus you slow down your pace. This fake satisfaction acts as an obstacle on your road to success, so it is better to avoid it by keeping your mouth shut.

#5 Demotivation- You cannot expect everyone to be equally excited as you about your goals. The world is made up with contraries, and so both optimists and pessimists reside here. If an optimist can encourage you, a pessimist can discourage and demotivate you. Moreover, this negativity would not help you to go forward rather it will diminish your fervor.

#6 Jealousy- This is one step higher from the previous option where the person to whom you spoke about your goal becomes aggressively jealous and tries to ruin your efforts. You never know what is going on in whose mind and what one is up to. So it is better to let certain things remain open.

#7 Self-sufficiency- Enough of talking about others but now pay attention to your own self. If you have set out to achieve something, you need to have faith and confidence in your own abilities. Self-sufficiency and not dependency on others will help you to succeed, so keep to yourself.

Bottom Line

Yes, it is good rather commendable to have a goal but, more important is achieving it and only you have the power to achieve your own goals. It feels nice to be appreciated and praised for your hard work, but it is equally disheartening to be labeled as a failure.

Thus, to check the feelings and to balance them, you need to move forward to your dream destination in a hush-hush way. It is bad to blow one’s trumpet, and it is humiliating to perform with a defective trumpet. So, stay silent and let your actions speak for yourself.

Keep all these in mind and set a goal if you have not already done one and then slowly and steadily move towards accomplishment. Staying silent will prove to be beneficial in the long run. Keep your cool and walk silently towards your goal. Wish you all the luck and resilience to remain silent and succeed!
