Four Keys on How to Start and Finish a Project

Do you feel you tend to undertake projects, but not complete them? A list of unfinished tasks, goals, objectives and initiatives is something that we all deal with, some of the other time.

Difference: Starting a project and finishing a project

When we start a task, we know the success we want to achieve. However, the path between the start of a job and the success line, requires much time, hard work, planning and understanding. Remember, no responsibility is easy, and every project has its methods and challenges, which may not be entirely visible at the start.

You may have many ideas, but the art of combining your ideas with practicality is what we need to learn for successful completion of any task.

Rules to remember

Before we get into understanding ‘How to start and finish a project’, it is essential to know some of the basic rules of selecting a project.

#1 Is your project worth the time?

Ideas at first seem great to pursue, but before you start make sure it is worth your investment. Remember, most of the projects or ideas are valueless. Do not get connected to any project on a personal level. If you are unable to see a long-term success out of a plan, simply DROP IT!

Investing your time and money in a worthless idea will end up creating a heap of unfinished projects and loss. Let your mind do the exercise and keep thinking about new ideas, but do not consider every thought to be fruitful.

Also, when one idea fails, get up and move forward with the next idea. You do not require all of them; you just need one unique idea to be an established entrepreneur.

#2 Think in parts and prioritize

An idea in itself cannot be a complete plan. If you really want to make your concept big, you will have to plan for every phase of work.

  • How and when to start
  • What resources you need and how to get it
  • How much time to delegate to each task of your project
  • Deadline
  • Finish and recheck for improvements

Think about all the steps mentioned above and go ahead with your idea. If you see any obstacle coming your way, first find out a resolution for the same and then move forward.

Also, it is essential to write down your plans and check it thoroughly. While you measure your steps, do not forget to PRIORITIZE.  Depending on your idea, whether it is a short or a long-term plan, schedule a time and prioritise your work.

Create a folder in your computer naming ‘IDEAS’. Save all your ideas here and review them from time to time. This way neither your ideas will go waste nor your time.

Finish Project on Time

Steps to start and finish a project

If you are continuously juggling between your personal and professional life, it is difficult to focus on one work at a time. However, sometimes to get something done you need to devote your time and attention towards one task entirely. Here are five steps you need to take to finish what you start:

#1 Take a decision and stick to it

Choices are the hardest thing to make, especially when you are on an unknown path. Before you start anything, you will have to promise yourself that “You will do it”. Any task lingering around for long, at first requires your attention and then your dedication.

If required, make changes in your approach and behavior towards your work. Even if we do not accept we know deep down what is our capacity and what makes us lack behind. To start with, learn to say ‘NO’ to certain things which are not so important. Then prepare a to-do list with time and stick to it. Eliminate unnecessary tasks and manage your time.

#2 Do not start without a proper plan

By now you know the tasks you need to complete, but how? Every project big or small requires a plan. It is essential to set the start and end time with steps to follow. To make it easier, break down each task of your project into actions to be taken on a daily basis. We understand you want to do it as quick as possible, but make sure you concentrate on one task at a time.

Being multitasking is excellent but not always. Make sure the tasks you assign yourself is achievable, and you are not overwhelmed. Create a plan, make calendar boundaries and work uninterrupted to achieve your set goals.

#3 Put your plan into action

You have a plan and strategy ready with you. Now it is time to put your plan into action. Get into the project and start with the first step of your designed plan.

Many people have a habit of keep delaying their plans. Remember, your plan can only work if you work. Do not keep waiting for the Sunday to go or the Christmas to pass, start NOW.

#4 Do not just do it, accomplish it

If your plan does not include a deadline, there won’t be any commitment. Most of the time people fail in finishing the task they start because they start finding excuses. Set a deadline for yourself, mark t on the calendar and push yourself to meet the same. If required, skip lunch, stay up late and forget holidays, but keep moving.

Also, while working on your project do not forget, this project is your decision. You are the one who wanted to change an idea into reality. On the trip to achieve fulfillment, sometimes you will feel tired and bored. However, this boredom or tiredness should not block your way. You are not doing anything forcefully. What you are doing is your choice, so do it like you want to master it.

Once you are done, make sure you have completed all the essential parts and saved your work properly. If required, recheck everything for the scope of improvement.
