Before I Die

Before I Die

Before I Die

In the 30 seconds I took to write this line, approximately 126 newborns took breath for the first time.

As they will grow, the vagaries of life will envelop them. Death, the loss of a special someone, depression, procrastination, giving up dreams, settling for life’s mediocrity and most importantly, never living this glorious life to its fullest potential will entrap them.

This is the course of humanity. We give up too easily.

When I think of all the things I would like to accomplish before I die, I am astounded and a bit shocked. I remember reading Samuel Beckett’s ‘Waiting for Godot’ a while back. The author says that between life and death, all we do is waiting; we wait for things to happen to us but does it ever happen?

The only reality is death and as such if all we can do is waiting for death to happen, why not spend the time doing things, achieving things, fulfilling dreams and live this live to its full potential?

Why not refuse to die an unlived life? Why not leave the attitude to procrastinate and actually make this life eventful?

Ask yourself – if you die know, what dreams, ideas, talent and greatness will die with you?

Tell yourself that your life has value. Every day is a new day and you will die without regrets of living an unfulfilled life if you don’t quit today, if you don’t quit ever.

Take a chance. Take a risk.

Before I Die: Things to Do

Before I Die and the Kefie Project are two immensely popular initiatives world over that motivates people to make wishes and achieve them. The idea has been adopted by communities’ world over, bringing immense joy to people.

It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities and forget what really matters to you.

If you died this very moment what will die with you. How can you find ways to get more out of the life you’re living  at the present time and live a life of great achievements and fulfillment, and if you had to live your life over again what would you do that you haven’t done.

Here are some things you should and must do before passing to the other world.

1) Volunteer for a Cause:

The world needs more volunteers to work for a cause. Join any NGO or a local help group and devote few hours of life every month and see the satisfaction filling up your soul.

2) Express Gratitude:

In her book ‘The Secret’, Rhonda Brynes says that one must never forget to give gratitude.  Gratitude could be saying a heartfelt ‘thanks’ to someone who helped you or praying to the Lord for giving you this life. Expressing gratitude is important. It keeps you grounded and level-minded.

3) Apologize:

Everyone makes mistakes but few have the courage to own up and apologize. I know of an elderly person who immensely regretted fighting with her best friend five decades back and never took the initiative to apologize and patch up. She died with a heavy heart. Do you want to live a similar experience?

Life is too short and precious to hold grudges. If you have hurt someone, apologize today.

4) Love:

Love is the most precious feeling in the world. Even for once, fall in love with your heart and mind. Pain is the other side of love. So, even if it ends in heartbreak, you will have the experience of loving fully and unconditionally.

5) Take a Vacation:

Our adult life is mostly spent on eking out a living. We work hard to pay off that education loan, the mortgage installments, filling our life with luxuries that we may not even need, spoil our health and barely stop to take a deep breath.

You work hard the whole year and you deserve a break. Go to places you only dreamt about, record the journey and share with your grandkids one day.

6) Spend time with Family:

Families form our core values. No matter how busy you are, no matter how much of a workaholic you are, never ignore your family. Try to have a contended family life.

7) Be an Entrepreneur:

Take a risk and become an entrepreneur. Rather than working for someone else, trod the path not everyone has the guts to take and work for yourself. Do you have an idea worth exploring? Do you have a dream that you always want to fulfill? Maybe it is time to take the risk. Avoid procrastination.

8) Overcome Your Worst Fear:

Human lives are ruled by fear and most of these fears are baseless. We create fears and use them as a shield that stops us, not anyone else, to get what we want. Take a moment to ponder. Acknowledge your worst fear and overcome it.

You have not come into this world to lead a life of compromises and to see your dreams dying even before getting a chance to fly.

You are a human and your life has value.
